Vessel History
The MV Liberty has had an interesting life.
Oil platform tender from 1986, in Canada, then sold to P&O for work servicing the French South Pole Base out of Tasmania under contract by the French Government, then in 2017 she became the MV YWAM Liberty, and served as a medical ship for YWAM in PNG
M.E.s-Since the recommission in October 2024, till now, they have run: PS 362 hours and SB 344 hours.
Owner’s note: “we restored both main engines in 2020, and gen sets 2024, installed new STP, new aft air conditioning, and water maker in 2024. We went through our 5-year tail shaft dry dock 2024, installed inside what was formerly known as the cargo hold, five medical containers, eye surgery, dental surgery, women’s surgery (OBGYN), pharmacy, and a medical lab/xray unit. All in 20-foot containers. This was done in the after half of the cargo hold. We now refer to it as our medical deck. Also, in the front half we turned that in to an event and dining room space. Air conditioned.
We are a USA nonprofit, flagged with MCI and class is BV. We did 21,000 medical services last year all free of charge for PNG. “
